For four-door fun under $50k realistically optioned, I think I’d lean towards the SS because V8 and magnetic shocks, but the RS is way smaller and a hatchback... It’s a hard choice.
Of course, the only option for people who have to look at the outside of the car is the VW Golf R.
Wait, what about the Charger Scat-Pack? The Fusion Sport? STI?
For me, the SS wins, but I’d have to drive one for myself to know for sure.

The SS has a drift button too. It's on the back of accelerator.

Of course the SS wins. But if the SS becomes popular, than GM might have to consider keeping Australian manufacturing open, and that is unacceptable.
Where have all the lightweights gone?

The SS is a big car, but it’s also a comfy car. The driving position is very good, and the back seats are also a nice place to sit.
It also has a cavernous boot, so a lot of your hauling needs could be handled by this instead of a hatch.
My choice is obviously the SS because V8 muscle & RWD.

Sadly no SS in Canukistan so I am required to say RS

I drove a Charger Scatmypants and it was enjoyable. It still feels like a current generation Chrysler vehicle. Cheap plastics sprinkled throughout and the back left door had a rattle that was really weird for a car with 87 miles on it. It was quick but it felt big.
The SS however is big, but I think it feels slightly smaller and bit quicker on its feet. Prod the throttle and it gives a satisfying push, stomp it and the back tired will light up. I also really like the back seats. As a tall gent, large back seats are nice so the back of the front seats doesn’t require me to have a amputee sit behind me. Plus it looks like a slightly gussied up Malibu so it blends in until you leave a plume of tire smoke behind you.
SS wins.

I’m just glad I’m not the only one who cross shops weird cars. I had a point in my life where I owned a WRX and decided to replace it with a GTO or an S2000. After test driving the S2000 and before I could drive a GTO, I ended up with a motorcycle and a GMC Safari van.
Also, I’d normally say SS wins because V8 + RWD = Maximum ‘Murica, but I rode in a Focus RS on Saturday and HOLY SHIT! that thing was amazing.

Australian manufacturing is DED with a capital D. Everything will be made in China and imported in.

Yeah, the marketing categories don’t really apply very well to enthusiasts.

I’d take the RS in a heartbeat. I’d rather save 30 grand and buy a used G8 over the SS.

Have G8 GXP’s gone down to 20k yet?

You don’t need a GXP, the GT gives you plent of room for mods at the price.

Focus for me, and it's not even a contest. Third fastest in a straight line (0.3 slower to 60 than the Scat Pack, 0.1 slower than the STI), fastest of them all through the corners, way more engaging and more fun through the corners, and between the suspension/driving modes and the hatchback it's the most versatile/practical of the bunch as well

Hmm, I thought the LS was only in the GXP.

After a quick wiki search I see that the GXP came with the 6.2 and optional manual.

The GT came with a 6.0 which is plenty. I’m also not a manual elitist but I could see how some would consider that a deal breaker.
